Should You Invest in “Sin” Stocks?

Do you love smoking cigars and cigarettes? Do you gulp down beer, whiskey, rhum, gin, lambanog, ethyl, isopropyl, etc.?

Do you adore gambling and playing the games of poker, slots, baccarat, bingo, blackjack, roulettes? Then I suppose you would definitely invest in companies that sell these products and services. Or, would you?

We always remind new investors to take a deeper look into a company’s fundamentals before deciding to buy their shares. But I seldom hear these days to consider asking themselves first if the company they are interested in are actually producing either clean or “sin” products.

Who does not want a greener pasture? Of course, everyone does! Even animals themselves scout for a new site where they can benefit more. The same thing is true with us humans. We search for a better place to stay and experience life fruitfully and financially prosperous.

One specific example is us, Filipinos. The one great reason why we leave our beloved country, Philippines, is to find better future for ourselves and loved ones. It is also a common practice from all over the world that people go out of their respective countries, either temporarily or permanently, believing they can find a better status somewhere else. Is Giving To The Poor A Crazy Idea?

How much do you keep for your future? How much of your salary do you set aside for the poor? How much do you give to your church’s missions?

Salary=Expenses-Savings-Tithes?

Years ago, our way of giving was just like that. We give to the church and to the poor out of what’s left from our salaries. And sometimes, we even thought of giving lesser than what we’re already offering. We listened too much to people who believe that offering to the church that nourishes our spiritual lives or giving alms to the poor are crazy ideas.
