A friend paid a visit at your home and asked for your financial assistance because her child is in a grave medical condition and needs continuous medication. You immediately reached in for your pocket but you only have P500 when you pulled out your hand (wow, barya lang ang P500 ha 😉 ).

So you told your friend to wait in your salas (living room) and you will just withdraw P5,000 from your emergency fund alkansya (piggy bank). Of course, you wanted to show off to your friend that you are financially-prepared all the time because you are an entrepreneur, an investor and a saver.

And with tears from her eyes, she looked at you and said, “tatanawin ko itong malaking utang na loob sa ‘yo, ‘mare.” (“I will look over this one as a credit inside, sister.”)

Walking Dead? (Saving The Youth from Dangers of Financial Illiteracy)

It’s been a great month of August for the OFW UsapangPiso Forum, Angat Pilipinas Coalition for Financial Literacy, and the BurnGutierrez.Com financial literacy missionaries.

Earlier this month, I sent fellow advocate Edmund Lao (Businessmirror columnist) to attend a cocktail night for bloggers for the Sykes Glorietta branch launching. He was actually able to “preach” the gospel of financial literacy to the young event promoters during that night.

This morning, we were able to run another webinar/webcast featuring Jess Emerson Uy, a financial consultant based in Singapore, and discussed about how OFW’s can invest in other countries aside from the Philippines and their respective countries of work.
